Possession

Purple spires of quiet light
erect on stove and tile counter
while the freezer sings a static
incantation. Coffee table
legs arced hard and muscled and the
air is cold and bright.

Purple light plays off piano keys,
night’s whiskers quiver, answering
the air with lovers’ summons and expectancies
while drops of ether form about my pen,
collected dregs from some Outsider’s tryst.
